Four tools, each solving a different word problem. Here is when to use which one.
Anagram Solver takes a set of letters and returns every valid English word those letters can form. Type in seven Scrabble tiles and get back every playable word, sorted by length. The word list is compatible with the NASPA Word List (NWL2023, effective February 29, 2024) and Collins Scrabble Words (CSW24, effective January 1, 2025). CSW24 contains over 280,000 permissible words.
Word Finder searches by pattern instead of by letter set. You specify the word length, the first letter, the last letter, or letters that must appear inside the word. The tool returns every matching entry. This is what you want when a crossword clue gives you _A_E_ and you need every five-letter word fitting that pattern.
Rhyme Finder returns perfect rhymes and near rhymes for any word. Perfect rhymes share identical ending sounds: cat and hat. Near rhymes, also called slant rhymes, share similar but not identical sounds: grown and road. Near rhymes are standard in modern songwriting, rap, and spoken word. Results are sorted by syllable count so you can match meter.
Word Lists is a browsable reference. Words organized by length, starting letter, and pattern. Use it to study two-letter Scrabble words, build vocabulary, or find words for a specific game situation.
The Word Lists Behind the Tools
Competitive word games rely on official lexicons. Two matter for English-language Scrabble.
The NASPA Word List 2023 (NWL2023) governs tournament play in the United States and Canada. It took effect on February 29, 2024, replacing NWL2020. The North American Scrabble Players Association maintains it. NWL2023 is the third edition NASPA has published.
Collins Official Scrabble Words 2024 (CSW24) governs international play. It took effect on January 1, 2025. WESPA, the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association, endorses it. CSW24 added 1,816 words to the previous edition and removed three words deemed offensive. Approximately 50 countries use CSW24. Three countries use NWL2023: the US, Canada, and Israel.
The tools on this site reference words compatible with both lists. This means results work whether you play in a US tournament, an international one, or casually online.
How Dictionaries Stay Current
The English lexicon grows. Merriam-Webster published the 12th edition of its Collegiate Dictionary in late 2025. It was the first new print edition in 22 years. The update added approximately 5,000 new words and 1,000 new phrases. The full Merriam-Webster online dictionary now contains over 480,000 entries.
Merriam-Webster adds words based on sustained, widespread use across varied publications. The process typically takes five to ten years of evidence. Some words move faster. COVID-19 entered the dictionary 34 days after it was coined, the fastest addition in Merriam-Webster history.
Competitive Scrabble dictionaries update on their own schedule. NASPA released NWL2023 in October 2023 with a February 2024 effective date. Collins released CSW24 in 2024 with a January 2025 effective date. These lists include inflected forms ( plurals, past tenses, comparatives ) that general dictionaries sometimes omit.

What word list do these tools use?
The tools reference words compatible with the NASPA Word List 2023 (NWL2023), effective February 29, 2024 for competitive Scrabble in the US and Canada, and Collins Scrabble Words 2024 (CSW24), effective January 1, 2025 for international play. What is the difference between the Anagram Solver and the Word Finder?
The Anagram Solver takes a fixed set of letters and finds every word those letters can form. Use it when you have a specific tile rack or jumbled set. The Word Finder searches by pattern: you describe part of the word (first letter, last letter, length, contained letters) and it finds every word that fits. Use it when you know the word's shape but not its content, like a crossword clue with some letters filled in.
Can I use the Rhyme Finder for songwriting and rap?
Yes. The Rhyme Finder returns perfect rhymes and near rhymes for any word. Perfect rhymes share identical ending sounds. Near rhymes, also called slant rhymes, share similar but not identical sounds and are widely used in modern songwriting, rap, and spoken word. Results are sorted by syllable count so you can match meter.
How many words are in the English language in 2026?
Merriam-Webster published the 12th edition of its Collegiate Dictionary in late 2025, adding approximately 5,000 new words and 1,000 new phrases. The full Merriam-Webster online dictionary contains over 480,000 entries. Collins Scrabble Words 2024 (CSW24) contains over 280,000 permissible words for competitive Scrabble. The NASPA Word List 2023 (NWL2023) covers all words legal in US and Canada tournament play.
Use Tools While You Play
The tools work alongside the games on this site. Stuck on a Crossword clue with partial letters? Use the Word Finder. Playing Anagram Forge and want to practice outside the game? The Anagram Solver shows you every word a letter set contains. Writing a poem and need a rhyme for orange? The Rhyme Finder will give you slant rhymes, because orange has no perfect rhyme in English.
Want to study words outside the tools? Browse the Word Lists by length and starting letter. Or jump into a game: Lexle for a daily guessing challenge, Word Hunt for a speed round, or Cryptogram for a logic puzzle.
